On Saturday evening, Bexley RFC held a 60th Anniversary Gala Dinner in the Applegarth Suite at the Marriott Hotel, Bexleyheath. The guest speaker was former England Rugby Union international, Jeff Probyn.
Among the guests at the black tie event was local MP, Rt Hon David Evennett. Mr Evennett chatted with current and former members of Bexley RFC, and subsequently took the opportunity to highlight this significant anniversary in the House of Commons on Wednesday (24 January) during Prime Minister’s Question Time.
Mr Evennett asked the Prime Minister: “Will my right honourable friend join me in congratulating Bexley Rugby Club on its 60th anniversary, and agree with me that the pursuit of sport is good for health and wellbeing?”
The Prime Minister responded: “I am happy to endorse what my right honourable friend says about sport, and indeed to join him in congratulating Bexley Rugby Club on this significant anniversary. I am sure that over all those years it has given many young people and others an introduction to the joy of sport and the way that sport can be both good for the community and for society, and for the individuals, so I am happy to endorse his claim.”
