At their quarterly meeting held earlier this month, Bexleyheath and Crayford Conservatives celebrated the Diamond Wedding Anniversary of their Vice President, Bernard Clewes MBE, and his wife Edna on 9th June 2016.
Association Chairman, Simon Windle, presented the couple with a card signed by all Association Officers and a bottle of champagne signed by the former Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rt. Hon. George Osborne MP.
Bernard was a Councillor for Erith Ward from 2006-2010 and also Mayor of Bexley in his last year. Edna, as well as being Bernard’s Escort for his Mayoral year, is also an active Conservative herself, having held the position of President of the Ladies Luncheon Club.
Speaking after the presentation and asked about their sixty years of wedded bliss, Bernard and Edna commented “The key to a successful marriage is to have common interests and to share your time together.”
