Rt Hon David Evennett, Sports Minister and MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, attended the England Golf Parliamentary Reception yesterday (7 June). The event was accommodated by the APPG for Golf and hosted by Sarah Stirk.
Mr Evennett is pictured in front of the Walkers Cup and holding the Ryder Cup. He then spoke to attendees about the health and economic benefits of golf, before delivering a speech.
In his address, Mr Evennett raised the importance of golf’s inclusion at the Olympics in Rio this summer, and how this could be used to promote the sport to get more people participating. He also emphasised how golf is good for communities, jobs, and the economy, as well as being open to those of all ages and backgrounds.
Following the reception, Mr Evennett commented: “I am delighted to have been able to attend this event and have the opportunity to highlight the many benefits golf has to offer.”
“Everyone should have access to a range of sports to encourage regular participation, and golf can play an important role in this.”
