Rt Hon David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford and Minister for Sport, attended the Festival of Tennis event yesterday (28 June) in New Palace Yard in the Palace of Westminster.
The purpose of the event was to celebrate the work of the Tennis Foundation and the progress it has made in increasing participation in tennis with people from diverse backgrounds and ability levels. The official announcement of the Rio GB Paralympic wheelchair tennis team was also revealed.
Mr Evennett spoke with representatives from the Tennis Foundation about the Government’s Sports Strategy and getting people involved in sport, before playing some tennis himself.
Mr Evennett commented: “The Tennis Foundation has done fantastic work in getting young people playing tennis, many for the first time. We have a proud history of tennis in this country and it is great to see so many people here participating in the sport.”
“I am also delighted to lend my wholehearted support to our Rio 2016 Paralympics wheelchair tennis team, and I wish them the best of luck.”
