Rt. Hon. Sir David Evennett MP has expressed his “great disappointment” at the news that The Opening of Crossrail has been delayed until the autumn of 2019. Sir David commented: “This is particularly disappointing for our area as we have such a poor local rail service and no underground. The new Elizabeth line will give more opportunities for commuters and other rail travellers, and delays in the start of the service are to be regretted. Of course, safety is paramount but the overspend on The Crossrail budget and the problems of signalling and the fitting of several stations means the Mayor of London and TFL have some serious questions to answer.
We also need an extension from Abbey Wood to Ebbsfleet to ensure we realise the economic potential of our area and to be able to provide more homes and more jobs. I do hope that this delay in the opening of Crossrail will not prejudice our campaign to get the project extended.”
