Rt Hon Sir David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, has written to the Director General of the BBC (Tony Hall) urging a rethink on their plans to scrap free TV licences for the over 75s.
Sir David commented: “I am really disappointed at the BBC’s decision to scrap free TV licences for the majority of over 75s. This is short-sighted, harsh, and insensitive to a section of the population who use the BBC services more than anyone. The BBC should look at other avenues to increase their revenues and cut back on the huge salaries paid to celebrities and presenters.”
