Today (2 August), Cash Access UK, the organisation set up to protect nationwide access to cash, has confirmed that the new Banking Hub in Welling will be located at 97-99 Welling High Street (the former Barclays Bank premises).
The Hub, when it opens later this year, will offer a counter service operated by the Post Office, where customers of all major banks and building societies can carry out regular cash transactions. It will also offer a Community Banker service where customers can talk to their own banking provider about more complicated issues, Monday to Friday, 9.00am - 5.00pm. Community Bankers will work on rotation, with a different bank or building society available on each day of the week:
Monday: Nationwide
Tuesday: NatWest
Wednesday: Lloyds
Thursday: Barclays
Friday: Santander (am), HSBC, (pm)
Welling was recommended to receive a Banking Hub after LINK, the UK’s cash access and cash machine network, identified the need for enhanced cash deposit services following a community request from Cllr Baroness O’Neill of Bexley OBE, Leader of the London Borough of Bexley.
Commenting on the news, Rt Hon Sir David Evennett, Member of Parliament for Bexleyheath and Crayford, said “The Welling Banking Hub will be invaluable to the local community and businesses when it opens, supporting those especially who rely on cash and face-to-face banking. Securing a location for the Hub is a great step forward for the community, and I look forward to a successful future.”
