The first FA Girls’ Football Week this year began on Monday 25 April, and is focused on encouraging both primary and secondary schools to organise football sessions for girls.
Rt Hon David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford and Sports Minister, attended a training session yesterday (27 April) in New Palace Yard in Parliament to show his support for the initiative.
Mr Evennett commented: “this is a great idea, which I strongly support. It’s fantastic to see so many girls enthusiastic about playing football.”
“We need to encourage children to participate in a wide variety of sports and move away from the notion of gender-based sports. It’s vital children have the best possible experience from an early age so they continue playing into adulthood.”
The second FA Girls’ Football Week will begin on 10 October, and will try to increase participation at higher and further education establishments.
