Rt Hon David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, visited Crook Log Leisure Centre on Friday (3 March) to meet Healthy Living Manager, Debbie Brown, and Contracts Manager for Bexley Council, Richard Kay.
Mr Evennett toured the facility and met staff and members of the Leisure Centre, before learning about the ‘Steps to Health’ Scheme and the benefits it has given to Bexley residents. Mr Evennett then met with his constituent, Barnehurst resident Jo Nichols, to hear about the positive impact the Scheme has had on her own health.
Steps to Health is Bexley’s Exercise Referral scheme, which provides a safe, supervised and enjoyable introduction to physical activity within a controlled environment. The Scheme gives patients who are not regularly active or who have health problems the opportunity to improve their health and well-being, regardless of age, ability or experience.
Mr Evennett commented: “The staff here are clearly very passionate about improving people’s health, and this has paid off with some very positive results. It’s great to be able to hear first-hand from my constituents what a positive impact this has had on their lives and I am sure the Scheme will continue to go from strength to strength.”
