Rt Hon David Evennett, MP and Lord Commissioner of HM Treasury, strongly backed the decision by Prime Minister, Rt Hon Theresa May MP, to call an election on 8 June.
Mr Evennett commented: “I believe this decision is in the national interest. The Government’s small majority can allow our opponents in Westminster to try and take us off course. We must therefore unite the country to deal with the issues facing Britain and we need to cement the strong and stable leadership our country needs to see us through Brexit and beyond. Only Theresa May as PM can do this.”
“The Referendum result last year gave us a mandate and Britain will leave the European Union in 2019. However, there are many other matters that the Government needs to address and we will continue to govern for all of the people. Issues such as education, the NHS, and transport locally are of real concern to my constituents and only the Conservatives have the necessary policies.”
“I look forward to the forthcoming election campaign.”
