Slade Green residents got in the Christmas spirit yesterday evening (10 December) at St Augustine’s Church for a ‘Carols by Candlelight’ service. The community gathered to listen to the Christmas story through the words of scripture and the singing of carols.
Among the attendees was local MP and Lord Commissioner of HM Treasury, Rt Hon David Evennett, and his wife Marilyn. Mr Evennett delivered a reading from the Gospel of Luke (The Birth of Jesus Foretold), before the carols. There were also a number of other participants who performed readings and the Choir sang festive songs. Mr Evennett commented: “It was a fantastic service and it is a pleasure to be here this evening to see the local community come together, despite the bad weather!”
Festivities continued after the carols with light refreshments inside the Church.
