Rt Hon Sir David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, helped celebrate National Employability Day 2018 last Friday (29 June) at the Slade Green and Howbury Community Centre.
The event was sponsored by Orbit Better Days, and gave individuals the opportunity to meet face-to-face with employers, receive CV and interview advice, and to learn about local training and apprenticeship opportunities.
Sir David toured the stalls and spoke to representatives from a number of organisations about the opportunities they have on offer, including:
- Bexley Time Credits
- Breathing Space
- Learning and Enterprise College Bexley
- The Learning Shop
- Tesco.com
- Parenta
- Skills 4 Growth
- Jacqueline’s Care
- Slade Green Senior’s Film Club
- All Dimensions
- Bexley Volunteer Service
Following the event, Sir David commented: “Unemployment is now at a 40 year low, and since 2010 on average we have seen over 1,000 people move into work every day, with the number of young people out of work falling by around 140 per day. However, despite significant progress, there is still more to do, and I am delighted to be able to support National Employability Day 2018. This is a great chance to learn about the wide range of support available to help people into jobs, as well as to learn about the many employment, training and volunteering opportunities there are in Bexley.”
