Rt Hon Sir David Evennett MP, Vice Chairman of the Conservative Party and MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, has welcomed the measures announced in the Spending Review today (4 September) by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP. The Spending Review ensures all Government Departments have the funding they need to deliver on the public’s priorities and will deliver material funding increases for schools, hospitals, police, social care and in a number of other areas.

Sir David commented: “thanks to the hard work of the British people and the sensible measures taken by successive Conservative Governments, we have seen a significant reduction in the huge deficit left by the Labour Party, and can now spend more money on our vital public services whilst ensuring taxpayers’ money continues to be spent wisely.

“I am particularly pleased to see an additional £1bn of grant funding for social care, which will help support local authorities meet rising demand, that the baseline funding levels and Revenue Support Grant will be uprated by £300m, and the 6.3% increase for the resource budget of the Home Office, which will help to give the Police the resources they need to keep our streets safe.

“I have also been campaigning to improve social mobility and as part of this to increase minimum per pupil funding. I am therefore delighted that next year every secondary school will receive a minimum of £5,000 per pupil, and by 2021-22 every primary school will get at least £4,000 per pupil, whilst also giving schools security with a three-year settlement, starting with an additional £2.6bn next year and rising to £7.1bn in 2022-23 compared to 2019-20 funding levels.
