Janice has lived in Crook Log Ward for over 30 years and together with her husband, raised 2 sons, attends church locally, is a regular at her local gym and has an allotment in the ward.
She worked in Bexley for 30yrs, leaving her last post where she was directly employed by the London Borough of Bexley in SureStart Children’s Centre management, in 2016. She was Head of Centre during Ofsted inspections, reports of which are available on the Ofsted website. She was instrumental in rolling out Children’s Centres across Bexley, working together with colleagues from health, Public Health, mental health, disability services, special educational needs, children’s and adult education, social care, advice and information services and local Police to name a few. During her time working for the borough, she achieved a Master's Degree in Leading & Management for Learning.
Before her Children’s Centre career, she was the service manager for a voluntary-sector organisation based in Thamesmead East. This provided a variety of services for children and young people on the edge of crime and self-harming behaviours. Services include LOCN training courses, drugs awareness workshops in schools, outreach for children not in education and young people on the streets, Youth Inclusion Projects funded by the Youth Justice Board, among many other prevention and support services.
Janice was Vice-Chair for Trust Thamesmead, a large local charity which co-owned Tilfen Land with Gallions Housing Association, which is subsumed into Peabody now. During her service on the Board, she was involved in strategy, finance, risk management, service development, and community cohesion and was directly involved in two large capital projects, The Link and Sporting Club Thamesmead.
She served as a school governor in Belvedere, fostered children and young people for Bexley, was a home support for Evergreen Care and is currently on an advisory board for equality, diversity and inclusion.
Janice has been instrumental in forging new service provision, meeting identified needs and has always been keen to make a difference in people’s lives and the things that matter most to individuals and communities. She is interested in working with local people on issues important to them and making a positive difference in Bexley wherever possible.
